Baidu, the giant Chinese search engine has become the latest member of the Hyperledger blockchain consortium which focuses on developing blockchain technologies for enterprises. By being the member of the Linux Foundation-led blockchain consortium, Baidu will assist projects efforts along with the other member companies. They include Accenture, IBM, JP Morgan, R3, Cisco and SAP. Since the launch of Hyperledger in 2015, over hundreds of companies, startups and organizations have joined the consortium.
Baidu found their interest in joining Hyperledger as they firmly believed blockchain could help obtain its search preferences as per user requirements, said Baidu vice president Zhang Xuyang.
“Over the past 17 years, we have striven to fulfill our mission by listening carefully to our users. We are thrilled to be part of Hyperledger and look forward to collaborating with other members to drive open blockchain solutions forward”, he added.
“Baidu’s deep understanding in connecting users to information and services will be tremendous experience for us to leverage as we look to expand our reach further in Asia and drive more global production deployments of Hyperledger technology”, said Brian Behlendorf, executive director of Hyperledger.
